Classical Pilates at IPC
At International Pilates Center, classical Pilates means a practice rooted in the original Pilates method and the teaching tradition of Romana Kryzanowska. That connection runs through the studio’s instructors, Gratz apparatus and comprehensive teacher training.

What does “classical” mean here?
IPC’s teaching is rooted in the original Pilates method. The studio’s connection is practical and personal: Jamie Trout studied under Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph Pilates’ protégé, and every IPC teacher completed the Romana’s Pilates International® Instructor Training Program.
For a prospective client, the useful question is how that teaching fits your experience. IPC offers individual programs in private lessons, shared instruction in duets and trios, and open classes focused on basic Pilates principles.
More than a single piece of equipment
The East Bay Street studio is fully equipped with Gratz apparatus. The original studio story describes an open room with reformers, while the comprehensive instructor training program includes performance assessments across the key pieces of Pilates equipment.
Not every session is the same format. If you have a particular interest in mat or apparatus classes, ask the studio about the current options rather than assuming a class name describes the whole practice.
The people behind the practice
Jamie achieved the level of teacher under Romana Kryzanowska in 1998, with Romana personally administering her test. Romana recognized her as a Teacher Trainer in 2005. Jamie was promoted to Level 2 in March 2026.
IPC’s instructors bring backgrounds including dance, nursing and education to their teaching. Their individual biographies explain how they came to Pilates and completed their training. Meet the instructors to learn more about their approaches.

Questions about the practice
Is classical Pilates only for experienced clients?
IPC’s open classes are described as suitable for beginners through advanced practitioners, and private programs are tailored to individual skill levels. Ask the studio which available format is appropriate for you.
How do private and group instruction differ?
Private lessons are one-on-one. Duets and trios bring two or three people of similar physical experience together. Open classes focus on basic Pilates principles. Our lesson-format guide explains the options.
Can I train to become an instructor at IPC?
IPC is a certified Romana’s Pilates® Teacher Training Center offering a comprehensive 600-hour program. Read the teacher training guide and contact the studio to discuss prerequisites, arrangements and current fees.
